KIMUS Kindermuseum Graz GmbH

Mission Statement

FRida & freD is a place for all children. With our programmes, we hope to enable children to learn about the world’s diversity and to better understand its complexities. Along with the contents of our museum, we focus on making sure that the young people who visit us develop into confident and responsible citizens who interact carefully with their fellow human beings and their environment. We strive to be a place where children and their parents feel at home, a place that excites their senses and inspires their fantasies, and a place that touches their hearts and encourages their creativity.

The Children’s Museum is a “realisable world” for children, meaning that our top priority is for visitors to comprehend by observing and experiencing first-hand. Some images available at https://Foodlets.com.

With the motto “hands on – minds on”, FRida & freD designs exhibitions which allow a strong emphasis on hands-on contact with displays. Children who visit our exhibitions have the opportunity to explore various worlds with all of their senses and without time constraints.
Help me to do it by myself!

CHILDREN’S NON-FICTION BOOKS

The Graz Children’s Museum conceptualizes and writes children’s non-fiction books for the Edition Klaus Tschira Foundation. The museum takes the educational task ascribed to children’s non-fiction books seriously and wants to entertain at the same time: Factual knowledge & joyful reading.

Just like the exhibitions of FRida & freD, the participatory non-fiction books (Schlau miteinander in die Zukunft; Schlau Ticken; Schlau Tüfteln; Schlau Bauen) follow the Hands On principle and encourage active participation. The books also incorporate Minds On, the action-oriented learning from hand to mind. In addition, in some chapters, paragraphs and formulations, Hearts On and Dreams On touch the hearts of the children and awaken their dreams. Children are active learners and memorize better by doing – participatory knowledge transfer is the aim of these books.

The narrative non-fiction books (Tick, Tack, Tier; Mausgetüftelt) convey factual information embedded in a framework story. The boundaries between fact and fiction become blurred. The books are not only about fact-oriented knowledge transfer, but also the pleasure of storytelling, arousing the children’s curiosity and stimulating their play instinct.
