Schlossberg Playground
KIMUS Graz GmbH, recognised as an expert in educational outreach for children, was commissioned by GBG – Gebäude- und Baumanagement Graz – to develop a playground for the Schloßberg in Graz. The educational concept for this playground was devised in collaboration with the Waldschule Graz. The Fladnitz-based company Almholz was entrusted with the construction.
At the centre of the playground, which is situated in the immediate vicinity of the ‘Welden Monument’, stands the panther – the heraldic animal of the city of Graz – inviting children to enjoy exciting adventures. The playground was constructed predominantly from wood and is designed as a place for discovery and social learning. Wood from Styria and natural design elements were used in its construction. The play area reflects the connection between the city, the forest and the experience of nature.
This world of play and discovery for all the senses offers play elements such as slides, climbing nets and climbing walls for all young explorers. Microscopes, a hall of mirrors and faceted glass ‘eyes’ create unexpected, surprising and imaginative sensory experiences across the visual, olfactory, tactile and auditory senses. Viewpoints invite visitors to observe and explore nature on Graz’s Schloßberg.
