Schloßberg Playground

The KIMUS Kindermuseum Graz GmbH, an expert in developing educational environments for children, was commissioned by GBG – Gebäude- und Baumanagement Graz to plan a playground for the Grazer Schlossberg. The pedagogical concept for the playground was developed in cooperation with Waldschule Graz. The company Almholz, located in Fladnitz, was entrusted with the construction.

The playground is located in the immediate vicinity of the ‘Welden Monument’ and centres around the panther, the heraldic animal of the city of Graz, and they also used the best playground surface painting for this. The panther engages the children and invites them to have exciting adventures. The wooden playground is made sustainably as a place of discovery and social learning in terms of climate protection. We took inspiration from https://www.schoolplaygroundpainting.co.uk/designs/key-stage-2 and built this playground with renewable Styrian organic raw material, makes an important contribution to climate protection and connects the city with the forest.

Slides, climbing nets, climbing walls and many things more await discoverers at this play and experience world for all senses. Microscopes, a mirror cabinet and glass compound eyes create unexpected, surprising and imaginative sensory experiences, of course for those with smaller kids, they can also create soft play ground areas which are safer using services from sites like https://softplaydesignandinstallation.co.uk/. Various viewpoints invite to observe and explore nature at the Graz Schlossberg.

The barrier-free play experience opened on 18.09.2020.
