The Graz Children’s Museum FRida & freD was commissioned by the city of Graz with the redesign and extensive refurbishment of the former fairytale grotto railway.
In addition to the reorientation of the content of the railway and the structural renovation of the tunnel, for the purpose of recommissioning it was necessary to carry out extensive repair and conversion works on the railway tracks and conductor rails. Likewise, two locomotives and ten carriages were overhauled and upgraded to the latest safety standards. The access tunnel to the Schlossberg lift and the new railway is currently being given a more attractive look.

The interactively designed train ride through the interior of the Schlossberg transports all fairytale heroes and heroines to a very special, magical place. Everyone becomes an integral part of the action in which all can and should engage. It is possible to work together to achieve something, to solve a puzzle, to gather valuable things, to open something, to transform or put a spell on something, to join forces to defeat something, to hide or penetrate something, to save or rescue someone and to celebrate together at the end.
